 Major and chromatic scales start on “do”; minor scales start on “la”, the third note below “do”.

    A relative minor key has the same key signature as its relative major, but starts on a different note (“la, instead of “do”).

 A tonic minor scale starts on the same note as its tonic major, but has a different key signature.  

    Pure or Normal Minor

   Harmonic Minor           7th degree up half step

   Melodic Minor      6th also raised but descending is pure minor
